World Bank President Banga inspects flood affectees’ rehabilitation in Larkana

World Bank Group President Ajay Banga arrived in Larkana on Wednesday, along with a delegation to review flood victims' rehabilitation, community development, and cultural heritage in Sindh, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah received the World Bank president at Mohenjo-Daro Airport, where senior provincial officials were also present. 

Later, Ajay Banga and the Sindh CM reached Bhawal Jat village in Dokri, one of the areas severely affected by flooding. The World Bank constructed 145 homes for flood victims.

Talking on the occasion, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that bank accounts of 15,50,000 flood affectees were opened. The World Bank provided $950 million for the flood affectees.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that 83 percent of homes were handed over to women on an ownership basis. Later, Ajay Banga mixed up with the residents of the area,

The Sindh government is reconstructing 2.1 million houses with the support of partners.

Later, the World Bank president accompanied the chief minister on a visit to Mohenjo-Daro, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, highlighting the dual focus of the trip on both development financing and the preservation of Sindh’s ancient cultural legacy.

The Sindh visit follows Ajay Banga’s recent stop in Khushab in Punjab, where he visited his ancestral home and paid homage at Gurdwara Singh Sabha, managed by the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB). 

Banga lauded Pakistan’s initiatives to preserve historical and religious sites, calling the administrative arrangements and restoration work “commendable.”
