Omicron cases drive positivity ratio to 8.91 in Karachi

Karachi health authorities have confirmed that another 236 cases of COVID-19 Omicron variant have been detected in the port city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Dr Arshad of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital confirmed the Omicron cases and said Omicron had been spreading on a faster rate in Karachi than earlier though driving the positivity ratio to near double digits.
The overall positivity ratio in the country during the last 24 hours was 1.42 percent with total 630 Covid-19 cases. However in case of Karachi, the positivity ratio in the megacity was recorded 8.91 percent.
Karachiites are in a fix as authorities have cautioned about the spread of the new variant and urged citizens to adhere to SOPs including wearing face masks and ensuring social distancing.
In Lahore, another 36 cases of Omicron variant have been reported taking the tally to 151.
Jinnah Hospital Focal Person on Coronavirus cases Dr Kashif Bashir warned that the hospital would be overburdened in the coming days.
