Gordon Ramsay backs son-in-law Adam Peaty amid wedding family drama

British chef Gordon Ramsay publicly expressed his support for his new son-in-law, Adam Peaty, on Saturday following his emotional wedding speech, which some fans speculated contained a "subtle jab" amid ongoing family tensions.

The Olympic swimmer, 31, married influencer Holly Ramsay, 25, at Bath Abbey on December 27, followed by a reception at the upscale Kin House. The nuptials unfolded against a backdrop of bitter family fallout, with Adam’s mother, Caroline Peaty, notably uninvited. The ceremony attracted high-profile guests, including close family friends like the Beckhams.

In an Instagram clip from the day, Adam delivered an emotional speech, declaring he would "always choose" his wife, while visibly moved and wiping away tears as Holly was given away by her father.

Gordon responded publicly, writing beneath the video: "Beautiful words @adamramsaypeaty @hollyramsaypeaty True Love congratulations love you both so much Dad".

Fans were quick to dissect the speech. Some drew parallels to the Beckham family feud, noting the wording echoed what Brooklyn Beckham has previously said about Nicola Peltz: "I'll always choose you – hmmmm, can’t help but wonder how Victoria [Beckham] felt hearing that sentence, especially since it’s the same one Brooklyn keeps using in his posts as a subtle jab at his family."

The Peaty family tensions reportedly stretch back to September 2024, when Adam and Holly did not invite wider members of the Peaty family to their engagement party.

Caroline was also excluded from Holly's hen do at Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds, despite the presence of bride’s mother Tana Ramsay and high-profile friends like Victoria Beckham. Despite being shut out, Caroline still sent a birthday card and gift to Adam.

Adam’s 73-year-old great-aunt, Janet, expressed her disappointment to The Mail on Sunday: "I just feel so sorry for Caroline. I can't believe he's done this to his mother who's done so much for him from an early age. To be treated like this is not kind."

Caroline had initially threatened to attend the wedding regardless, even considering standing outside the abbey if barred entry, but ultimately decided against it after her husband, Mark, persuaded her it would be "too upsetting."

Had she defied the ban, she would have faced five security guards stationed at the abbey’s ornate doors, which were decorated with white roses and hydrangeas.

Apart from Adam’s sister Beth, who served as a bridesmaid, the Peaty family was excluded. His father, Mark, was allowed to attend but seated at the back, behind “plus ones.”

Following the snub, Adam’s estranged brother James shared a poignant photograph of Caroline standing outside the wedding venue, dressed in what appeared to be formal attire, before deleting it 15 minutes later.

The post included a remix of "Speak Softly, Love" from The Godfather, drawing symbolic comparisons between Adam as an outsider and the Ramsays as the powerful family, echoing the classic film’s themes of exclusion and hierarchy.

James has since wiped his Instagram of all images, highlighting the deepening estrangement.

Despite the family drama, the wedding itself proceeded smoothly. The ceremony concluded without incident, and the newlyweds exited Bath Abbey to ringing bells, then headed to their reception at Kin House, a Georgian manor near Chippenham, ensuring the celebration remained private and lavish.
