Terror strikes again in Peshawar and Lakki Marwat; police posts blasted

In a fresh wave of militant activity, unidentified assailants launched coordinated attacks on police checkposts in Peshawar and Lakki Marwat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) late last night, causing material damage but no reported casualties, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.

According to police officials, the attack in Peshawar occurred at the Reggi Lalma checkpoint, where suspects hurled a hand grenade. The blast damaged a police vehicle parked at the post, though thankfully, no injuries or loss of life were reported.

In a separate incident in Lakki Marwat, unidentified attackers blew up the abandoned Kharoba checkpost using an improvised explosive device (IED). 

The post, long deemed unfit for use and vacant for months, was destroyed in the explosion. Lakki Marwat police confirmed that the facility had not been in operational use for some time.

These latest attacks come amid a troubling pattern of violence in the region. Just three days earlier, on July 1, two traffic policemen, Israel and Sanaullah, were shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Long Khel Road near Gul Baz Dehkan in Lakki Marwat. The assailants also seized the officers’ weapons before fleeing the scene. The victims were en route from Long Khel village to Taja Zai Adda for duty at the time of the ambush.

Earlier this year, on April 24, three traffic police personnel sustained injuries when their van was ambushed by gunmen in the Dara Pezo area of Lakki Marwat. District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Jawad Ishaq stated that the attackers used heavy weaponry, setting the police van ablaze before escaping to a nearby village in the neighbouring Tank district.
