Shaneira Akram shuts down fake rumors about Wasim Akram's death
Pakistani cricket legend Wasim Akram's wife, Shaneira Akram, has dismissed fake AI-generated videos and social media posts falsely claiming that the former fast bowler had died of a heart attack.
The rumours began circulating online through fabricated videos and posts alleging that Wasim Akram had passed away and prompted concern among fans.
Responding to the false claims, Shaneira shared a fresh video of Wasim working out at the gym to confirm that he was alive and well.
The footage shows the former cricketer performing exercises, including cable pulldowns, pull ups and barbell floor presses before looking into the camera and smiling.
Addressing the rumours in her caption, Shaneira wrote that she had recorded the video in response to the "fake news and AI videos" circulating online.
"As you can see, he is in the gym and seems OK," she wrote.
The post reassured fans that the former cricketer is doing well.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create convincing fake videos and spread misinformation involving public figures.
Wasim Akram is a former Pakistani cricket captain and one of the greatest fast bowlers in the history of the game.
Widely known as the "Sultan of Swing," he played international cricket for nearly two decades and was instrumental in Pakistan's 1992 Cricket World Cup triumph.
After retiring, Akram transitioned into coaching and cricket commentary and he continues to be regarded as one of Pakistan's most influential and respected sporting figures.
