Popular Turkish TV serial Dirilis Ertugrul has taken the internet by storm not in Pakistan but across the border as well.

Kashmiri parents have now named their newborns after the popular Turkish series that fans have been comparing to ‘Game of Thrones’.

The show has caught on the popularity of people in the Indian subcontinent ever since they have found an Urdu-dubbed version of the show.

In a report published in Outlook, Dr Suhail Naik, consultant Pediatrician and president Doctors Association of Kashmir was quoted, “Ertugrul is the frequently encountered name in my outdoor department. During winters Ertugrul caps with fur were trending in Kashmir, but at that time I didn't comprehend the basis of fashion. But now I also started watching it and I realise what is happening.”

If you watch the show, you will know that the Ottoman soldiers and the civil officers used to wear the slightly claret red headwear called fez.

Dirilis Ertugrul is set in 13th century Anatolia (now modern-day Turkey). It is based on the journey of the Muslim Oghuz Turks, fighting Byzantine, invading Mongols and the Crusaders. The series revolves around Ertugrul Ghazi, a warrior and father of Ottoman Empire founder Osman.
