Karachi mart fire blues far from over as flames again engulf store
The fire which broke out in Karachi’s superstore at Jail Chorangi three days ago and which took life of a young rookie of the store besides injuring three others, could not be brought under complete control as flames have one again engulfed the first floor, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Though the authorities claimed yesterday that the fire was doused after a hectic effort of 37 hours, but it once again broke out in the first floor of the store where cosmetic articles, perfumes and clothes have been stacked. .
The fire tenders are trying to put out the flames with the help of snorkels but they are confronting difficulties due to dense smoke which has blanketed the entire floor.
The fire which broke out on Wednesday morning presented a great hazard to scores of residential flats on the upper storey of the superstore where as many as 600 people have been residing. The flats were immediately evacuated after the fire engulfed the store.
The Sindh Building Authority has lodged a case with Ferozwala police station against the mart owners and the administration for constructing the store on a space allotted for a parking lot.
