Ceasefire deal reached between Israel and Lebanon after US-mediated talks

Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a ceasefire following negotiations conducted with US mediation, according to a joint statement issued after the talks, the 24News HD TV channel reported on Thursday.

According to the report, the agreement is aimed at reducing tensions in the region and creating conditions for further diplomatic engagement between the two sides.

Under the terms of the ceasefire, Hezbollah is expected to halt all attacks against Israel. The agreement also requires the group to withdraw from areas in southern Lebanon covered by the arrangement.

According to the joint statement, designated pilot zones will be placed under the control of the Lebanese Armed Forces. Non-state actors will not be permitted to enter or operate within these areas, a measure intended to strengthen security and prevent further hostilities.

The United States Department of State confirmed that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to the ceasefire and said the initiative was designed to help lower tensions across the region.

The State Department also announced that representatives from both sides would meet again on June 22 for further negotiations aimed at building on the agreement and addressing outstanding issues.

According to reports, the ceasefire was reached on the condition that Hezbollah would cease its attacks, paving the way for renewed diplomatic efforts. Both parties are expected to continue discussions later this month as part of a broader process to stabilise the security situation along the border.
