Nepra approves Rs1.99 per unit cut in electricity tariff under quarterly adjustment

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a reduction of Rs1.99 per unit in electricity tariffs under the quarterly adjustment mechanism, providing relief to consumers across the country.

According to the decision, the tariff reduction pertains to the quarterly adjustment for the period from January to March 2026.

Nepra has forwarded its decision to the federal government for notification and implementation.

The reduction will remain effective for three months, from June to August 2026, and will apply to eligible electricity consumers nationwide.

The regulator said consumers would receive a cumulative relief of Rs67.17 billion as a result of the quarterly adjustment.

The latest relief comes shortly after Nepra approved a Rs1.19 per unit increase in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for April 2026.

Officials said the quarterly adjustment is intended to reflect variations in power sector costs and revenues, while the monthly fuel adjustment accounts for fluctuations in fuel prices used in electricity generation.

Once notified by the federal government, the reduction will be reflected in electricity bills issued during the three-month period.
