Virat Kohli surpasses Ricky Ponting in ODI catch record

Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli has surpassed former Australian captain Ricky Ponting’s record for most catches in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) by a non-wicketkeeper, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During the first semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, Kohli took his 161st ODI catch in the 27th over when he caught Josh Inglis off Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery. This milestone pushed him past Ponting, who had 160 catches in 375 matches.

Kohli further extended his tally later in the match by grabbing a catch to dismiss Nathan Ellis, bringing his total to 162 catches in 301 ODIs.

He is now second on the all-time list of most catches in ODI history by a non-wicketkeeper.

Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene remains at the top, having taken 218 catches in 448 matches.
