The National Assembly on Thursday sent the matter of inquiry into the allegations against Supreme Court judge Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani gave the ruling under Rule 190 of the National Assembly (NA) to send the matter to the PAC on the proposal moved in the House by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
“A special audit should be conducted by a joint team of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) in the case of Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi,” Sardar Ayaz Sadiq suggested.
“The joint team should conduct the special audit within 15 days and submit a report to the PAC. Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi should tell how he bought a plot worth Rs100 or Rs110 million,” he added.
“What is the market value of the plot? How much tax did he pay on it? Where did the construction money come from?” he questioned and added that the task of conducting audit and oversight was with the Parliament and committees.
“It is the responsibility of the Parliament and the committee to work in this regard so that fingers are not raised at the honourable judges. Many fingers are being pointed at the judges which is painful for all of us. For us, all judges are honourable,” he stated.
“Sufficient material has been collected against one judge. All the bar councils and associations of Pakistan have filed references. The discrediting of other judges due to one judge is sad and painful,” he pointed out.
“Fingers are being pointed at Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi. In this situation, the National Assembly and the committee have the responsibility to do something to clear the name of Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi from the allegations,” he stressed.
“The easiest way for him to get cleared is that he should reveal his source of income. These questions should be answered so that no finger is pointed at the judges. They are very honorable to us,” he added.
MNAs demand fresh census in Karachi
The members of the National Assembly (MNAs) on Thursday urged the government to withdraw recently increased exorbitant Sui gas meter rent charges and conduct fresh census in Karachi to obviate the sense of deprivation in the residents of the largest city of the country.
Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali urged National Assembly Deputy Speaker to issue ruling, directing the concerned to conduct a fresh census in Karachi to address the issue of deprivation felt by its inhabitants.
Speaking on a point of order in National Assembly, Chitrali emphasized that a significant number of Karachi’s residents were not counted in the ongoing census, leading to a sense of injustice and marginalization.

Another member of the National Assembly, Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani called for the withdrawal of the increased rent charges for Sui gas. He also highlighted the need to address any discrepancies in the ongoing digital census to ensure accuracy and fairness in the process.
Ms. Aliya Kamran echoed the call for the withdrawal of Sui gas meter rent charges, which she argued were causing undue financial burden on citizens.
