Fisherman killed in mysterious explosion at Ghafarewala Dam, Dera Ismail Khan
A fisherman was tragically killed in a mysterious explosion while fishing at Ghafarewala Dam on the Indus River, local police confirmed on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Huzoor Bakhsh Sindhi, died instantly when an explosive device became entangled in his fishing net and detonated.
Initial reports suggest that the blast may have originated from a landmine or a stray detonator floating in the water.
According to police, investigations are underway to determine the source of the explosive—whether it was placed near the riverbank or carried downstream before getting caught in the net. The possibility of a floating landmine, potentially washed down from upstream areas, has not been ruled out.
Authorities have handed over the body of the deceased fisherman to his family, and further forensic examination of the blast site is ongoing.
