Balochistan High Court halts assembly building demolition tender process

The Balochistan High Court (BHC) has issued an interim order restraining authorities from opening the tender for the demolition of the provincial assembly building until further notice, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to reports, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mullahkhel and Justice Najamuddin Mengal passed the order while hearing constitutional petitions filed against the move.

The petitions were submitted by advocate Amanullah Kanrani and Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani. 

Kanrani appeared in court in person, while Raisani was represented by advocate Muhammad Riaz Ahmed. The provincial government was represented by Additional Advocate General Shahak Baloch.

Following the hearing, Kanrani told the media that the court had stopped the opening of the demolition tender until May 11, 2026. 

He added that the next hearing of the case will take place on 11 May 2026, after which further proceedings will continue.

The development comes as the Balochistan government plans to construct a new assembly building at an estimated cost of five billion rupees. 

The channel reorted that for this purpose, tenders for demolishing the existing structure had been issued a few days earlier, with the opening scheduled for 7 May.

However, the process has now been suspended in light of the court’s order.
