The Imran Khan government is going to take another U-turn as it is contemplating to bring more amendments to recently promulgated National Accountability (Third Amendment) Ordinance, 2021, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to sources, the government is going to take back the authority of removing NAB Chairman from the President and would entrust it back to the Supreme Judicial Council.
Sources divulged that the government would go to the Parliament and with its approval, it will take back President’s prerogative to remove the NAB Chief. Due to limited constitutional rights of the President, the government is thinking to divest the President of his recently assigned authority of removing the NAB Chief, sources added.
There were complexities in the procedure of removing NAB Chairman. On Oct 31, through a presidential ordinance the government promulgated the National Accountability (Third Amendment) Ordinance, 2021 in which the President was given the authority to remove the chairman of the accountability bureau.
But almost all mainstream Opposition parties vehemently opposed the government’s decision regarding giving authority to remove NAB Chief to the President.
