Some quacks spreading lies about cervical cancer on social media, says Punjab minister

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir said on Saturday that the administration of the HPV Vaccine was the only way through which Cervical cancer could be treated, and that some quacks, in order to increase their followers on social media, were busy spreading lies about it, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

“The vaccine is the World Health Organization (WHO) certified,” he said, and added, “It has already been administered to girls in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Libya, Kuwait and Morocco.”  

Khawaja Imran informed that in Pakistan, cervical cancer was the second most common cancer in females, aged between 15 and 44.  

“So far, 6.7 million girls in the country have been administered the vaccine,” the minister said, and added, “The vaccine has now been included in the routine course not only in Pakistan, but in 147 countries of the world.”

He said that today was the last day of the vaccine’s catch-up campaign, and those parents of girls, aged between 9 and 14 years, who could not get their daughters administered the vaccine in the first phase, could get their daughters vaccinated against the disease from their nearest health centers.
