Rain washes out Australia–Sri Lanka clash in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025

Persistent rain in Colombo led to the abandonment of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 fixture between Australia and Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, without a single ball being bowled.

The continuous showers delayed the toss, and with no signs of the weather easing, the umpires eventually called off the match as both captains shook hands, confirming a washout.

With the two teams sharing a point each, Australia now sit atop the points table with three points.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka opened their account at the ongoing tournament are now fifth in the eight-team points table.

Australia had arrived into the contest on the back of an impressive result against White Ferns in their opening fixture.

The defending champions looked in fine fettle as they clinched an 89-run triumph against New Zealand. 

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka were bested by India in the tournament’s opening encounter in Guwahati, sealing a 59-run win (DLS method).
