Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz on Thursday visited the flood relief camp set up at Chuhng in Lahore and reviewed the facilities being provided there, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Provincial Minister for Information Azma Bukhari, other provincial ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique, Khawaja Imran Nazir, IGP Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and CTO Athar Waheed accompanied the chief minister on the visit.  

These days, CM Maryam visits the flood-affected areas of the province in order to get knowledge about the relief and rescue activities underway in these areas. 

On Monday, she visited Trimmu Barrage near Jhang to review the flood situation and the ongoing relief operations.

During her visit to the Sicada Control Room, the chief minister was briefed by Commissioner Faisalabad Raja Jahangir Anwar and Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar on the scale of the floods and the measures taken to protect lives and properties of the people.

According to officials, the biggest flood in history recently passed through Trimmu Barrage. However, timely measures saved not only Multan but also other vulnerable areas from widespread devastation. 

The briefing noted that nearly 298,000 people were evacuated from Jhang ahead of the flood, while around 119,000 cattle were shifted to safe locations. Authorities have also arranged fodder and water supplies for livestock, with 102 veterinary workers moving village to village to provide treatment and care.

Relief operations remain underway, with 21 camps set up for flood victims in Jhang district. Around 750 displaced people are currently residing in these camps. Officials said 181 villages have been affected by the flooding.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to expand the scope of rescue and relief operations to ensure that “not a single affected person is left behind.” She further ordered the use of drones, thermal imaging cameras, and other modern technologies to aid in locating stranded victims.

“Wherever help is needed, we will provide it. The deprivations of Jhang will be addressed,” she assured. Stressing that human life remains her top priority, Maryam Nawaz said, “Allah Almighty has given me the responsibility to protect the people. Saving the population and saving human lives comes first, and that is why no interference has been made in the technical work of breaching protective embankments.”
