Islamabad administration seals 15 tandoors and arrests 18 over overpricing

The district administration in Islamabad has intensified its crackdown to ensure the availability of roti and naan at government-prescribed rates, carrying out inspections and enforcement actions across the city, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, assistant commissioners inspected 138 tandoors on the second consecutive day. During the operation, authorities sealed 15 tandoors found selling bread at inflated prices, while 18 individuals were arrested for violating official rates and shifted to police stations.

The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, Irfan Memon, directed assistant commissioners to conduct daily inspections and ensure strict compliance with government rates.

He reiterated that the price of roti has been fixed at Rs20 and naan at Rs25, warning that overcharging would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Authorities have urged citizens to play their part by identifying and reporting tandoors involved in overpricing. Complaints can be registered at the control room helpline 051-9108084.

Officials said daily reports on enforcement actions are being sought from assistant commissioners to maintain consistent monitoring and ensure relief for the public.
