Pakistan Cricket Board gifts wheelchairs to Bangladeshi cricketers

The Bangladeshi Wheelchair Cricket Team (WCCT) visited Pakistan House in Dhaka on Sunday to receive cricket wheelchairs gifted by the Pakistan Cricket Board, 24NewsHD TV channel reported. 

The event was attended by officials from the Physical Challenge Wing of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, as well as national team members including Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad.

High Commissioner Imran Haider warmly welcomed the visiting team, highlighting the strong tradition and wide following of cricket across both nations, including among persons with disabilities. 

Speaking at the event, he noted that wheelchair cricket has emerged as an inspiring adaptation of the traditional sport, showcasing courage, resilience, and determination.

He added that it not only allows players to demonstrate their skills but also challenges societal perceptions about disability.

The High Commissioner commended both cricket boards for supporting and fostering the sport, acknowledging the dedication of players and their role in promoting wheelchair cricket. 

Emphasising the shared passion for cricket between Pakistan and Bangladesh, he said the sport remains one of the most significant links between the two countries, reflecting their enduring brotherly relations.

He also observed that bilateral ties continue to strengthen across all sectors, including cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections, reflecting a growing relationship beyond the cricket field.

The Bangladeshi WCCT is set to participate in the third T20 Wheelchair Cricket Asia Cup later this year, which will be hosted in Pakistan. The High Commissioner extended his best wishes to the team for their upcoming tournament.
