US-Israel attack petrochemical hub again; Iran warns of nuclear radiation

As many as five people were martyred while 170 were injured in fresh US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran's Special Petrochemical Zone of Mahshahr again on Sunday, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

The country’s Shahkar Sports Stadium was also destroyed in the strikes.

Also on Sunday, while reacting to the US and Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear plant, the country’s Foreign Minister (FM) Abbas Araghchi said that in case there was radiation, this would not only destroy human life in Tehran, but also in Gulf states.

Iran’s FM said that so far, both the US and Israel had bombed the plant four times. “The attack on petrochemicals hub also shows the intention of our enemies,” he added.

US-Israeli strikes on Saturday targeted a petrochemicals hub in southwestern Iran, hitting several companies in the area, as Iranian forces said they have so far shot down more than 160 armed enemy drones.

"Explosions occurred in the Special Petrochemical Zone of Mahshahr," said Fars news agency, citing the deputy governor for Khuzestan province.

Fars said the "US-Israeli attack on Mahshahr" hit three companies in the area, while Tasnim news agency said "the extent of the damage remains unknown".

Meanwhile, commander of the Joint Headquarters of the National Air Defence has said Iranian soldiers are ready to ambush “enemy fighter jets and drones” with “modern indigenous methods and equipment” built to hunt fifth-generation aircraft and advanced unmanned systems, Al Jazeera reported on Saturday.

In a statement carried by the IRNA news agency, Brigadier General Alireza Elhami said the Iranian air forces have already destroyed several advanced fighter jets, dozens of cruise missiles and more than 160 drones, including the Hermes and Lucas unmanned aircraft. He added that the downing of these aircraft was “the result of tactics and the use of new equipment and innovations in defence systems”, which he said has caused confusion for the enemy.

Attack on Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant kills one

A projectile from a US-Israeli attack hit near the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran on Saturday, killing one person, state media reported.

"Following the US-Zionist criminal attacks, this Saturday morning, around 8:30 am, a projectile hit the area near the Bushehr nuclear power plant in the southwest," said the official IRNA news agency.

It added that one of the building's guards was killed but noted that there was no damage to the plant's facilities.

Iran shoots down another US warplane

Iranian and American forces were racing each other early Saturday to recover a crew member of the first US fighter jet to go down inside Iran since the start of the war.

Tehran said it had shot down the F-15 warplane, while US media reported American special forces had rescued one of its two crew members, with the other still missing.

Iran's military also said it downed a US A-10 ground attack aircraft in the Gulf, with US media saying the pilot was rescued.

The war erupted more than a month ago with US-Israeli strikes on Iran that killed supreme leader Ali Khamenei, triggering retaliation that spread the conflict throughout the Middle East, convulsing the global economy and impacting millions of people worldwide.

US Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the loss of the F-15, but White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said: "The president has been briefed".

President Donald Trump told NBC the F-15 loss would not affect negotiations with Iran, saying: "No, not at all. No, it's war."
