China cutting off climate talks 'fundamentally irresponsible': US

The United States said Friday that China's decision to halt cooperation in a number of critical areas, including climate change, over Taiwan was "fundamentally irresponsible."

"We believe that this is fundamentally irresponsible," National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters of the Chinese move.

"They think they're punishing us by shutting down this channel," Kirby said. "They're actually punishing the whole world because the climate crisis doesn't recognize geographic boundaries and borders."
