Pakistan Stock Exchange roars past historic 143,000-point mark

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) made history on Tuesday as the benchmark KSE-100 Index closed at an all-time high of 143,037 points, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

In a remarkable show of investor confidence, the KSE-100 Index gained 1,222 points during intraday trading, peaking at an unprecedented 143,281.34 before settling at 143,037.16 by the closing bell. This marks a 984-point increase—or a 0.69% gain—from the previous session.

At the close of business for the day, the PSX’s benchmark KSE-100 index soared to 143,037.16 points, registering an increase of 984.52 or 0.69 percent.

Of the total 484 companies traded today, the share prices of 239 companies went up and of 217 went down while 28 remained unchanged.

Index-heavy sectors, including automobile assemblers, commercial banks, cement, fertilizer, OMCs, SNGPL, WAFI, INDU, MCB, MEBL and UBL, traded in the green.

Market analysts attributed the strong performance to optimism following the announcement of a new trade deal between Pakistan and the United States. The agreement promises lower tariffs on Pakistani exports, which is expected to ease pressure on the current account and stimulate economic activity.

The breakthrough in trade ties, combined with improving macroeconomic indicators, has strengthened investor sentiment, leading to aggressive buying across the board.

Earlier on Monday, the PSX had gained 1,017.66 points, a positive of 0.72 percent, closing at 142,052.65 points. 

A total of 666,372,806 shares were traded during the day as compared to 609,708,910 shares the previous trading day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 42.924 billion against Rs 50.552 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 482 companies transacted their shares in the stock market, 247 of them recorded gains and 206 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 29 companies remained unchanged.

The three top trading companies were Cnergyico P:K with 53,705,314 shares at Rs 7.39 per share, Pak Int. Bulk with 50,585,832 shares at Rs10.44 per share and Bank of Punjab with 30,628,274 shares at Rs 13.90 per share.

Nestle Pakistan Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs242.26 per share price, closing at Rs7,907.56, whereas the runner-up was Al-Abbas Sugar Mills Limited with Rs82.72 rise in its per share price to Rs1,070.98.

PIA Holding Company LimitedB witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs708.25 per share closing at Rs26,832.75 followed by Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited with Rs161.66 decline in its share price to close at Rs33,225.67.
