February 5, 2021 12:56 PM

The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday directed the federal government to amend section 510 of the Criminal Law which relates to the examination of chemicals, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Hearing an appeal filed by Ali Haider alias Pappu, who had raped an eight-year-old girl in Vehari, the apex court also asked the government to stop accepting every official forensic report from now on as evidence.

In its nine-page verdict, penned down by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, the court also upheld the death sentence awarded to Ali Haider alias Pappu by a trial court and the Lahore High Court, respectively.

The SC ordered the government to consider only DNA report as credible evidence in cases of rape and murder.

The apex court further directed the government to send copies of the amendment to section 510 of the Criminal Law to the Law Ministry as well as the Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs.
