ECP wants stern action over attack on PPP office in NA-127
The election commission secretary has written a letter to Punjab chief Secretary for making arrangements to ensure free, fair and transparent election.
In the letter the commission sought a stern action over over the attack on PPP office in NA-127 in Lahore immediately.
The letter reads: "As you are aware that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is entrusted with the duty of organizing and conducting election and to make such arrangements as are necessary to ensure that the election is conducted honestly, justly, fairly and in accordance with law and that corrupt practices are guarded against.
“Furthermore, as per Article 220 of the Constitution, it is the duty of all executive authorities to assist the Election Commission and the Commissioner in the discharge of their functions.”
It adds: "The Election Commission has taken serious note of attack on the office of Pakistan Peoples Party in NA-127 in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kot Lakhpat.
"The initial report submitted by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Operations, Lahore to the District Monitoring Officer has been considered in this Commission and the commission has directed to take strict action under the law against the accused persons involved in the incident.
“It is therefore requested that immediate action in the matter may be taken immediately under intimation to this Commission.”
