Pakistan reaffirms support for Kashmiris on Kashmir Solidarity Day: FO 

Pakistan Thursday observed Kashmir Solidarity Day, reaffirming its unwavering moral, diplomatic and political support for the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said.

In a statement, the spokesperson said the day was marked to reiterate Pakistan’s resolve to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Kashmiri people in their just struggle. He said the President, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, in their special messages, reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to continue advocating for the rights of Kashmiris at all international forums.

According to the spokesperson, on the occasion the Deputy Prime Minister wrote letters to the Presidents of the United Nations Security Council and the UN General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The letters drew urgent attention to the grave human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the need for the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and called for a free, fair and impartial plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir under UN supervision to determine the will of the Kashmiri people, the spokesperson said. He also urged the leadership of the UN and the OIC to play an effective role in addressing the alarming human rights situation in IIOJK.

Ahead of Kashmir Solidarity Day, a comprehensive briefing was organized for diplomats posted in Islamabad, during which they were informed about the current situation in IIOJK and ongoing human rights violations.

The spokesperson said officers and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also participated in the Kashmir Solidarity Day Walk held at Jinnah Avenue, expressing strong solidarity with the Kashmiri cause.

He added that Pakistan’s diplomatic missions across the world are organizing seminars, webinars, public rallies and photo exhibitions to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people and highlight alleged human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
