Water tanker hits 7-year-old boy to death in Karachi's Manghopir area

A seven-year-old boy died after he was hit by a speeding water tanker in Karachi's Gharib Nawaz Colony, an area in the jurisdiction of Manghopir Police Station, on Monday. Police have arrested the tanker driver and taken the vehicle into custody.

According to police, the child died on the spot after being struck by the water tanker. His body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by an Edhi ambulance for legal formalities, where the deceased was identified as Arif, son of Ghulam Abbas.

Manghopir police said they took immediate action following the incident, seizing the water tanker and arresting the driver, identified as Wazir Muhammad, son of Qadron Shah. An investigation has been initiated, and further legal proceedings are underway.

Speaking to the media, the grieving father said Arif was his younger son and that his wife had passed away just a month ago.

“I work as a watchman at an Imambargah and have two children,” he said. He alleged that the tanker driver was wearing a hands-free device at the time of the incident and failed to hear people shouting warnings. “If there was no water shortage in the area, the water tanker would not have come,” he added, demanding strict punishment for the driver.

Police confirmed that both the tanker and the driver remain in custody as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
