Maritime Affairs Minister announces reforms in fisheries sector

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced comprehensive reforms in the fisheries sector, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

In this regard, the federal minister said that sustainability in fisheries sector will be ensured under these reforms. 

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry damaging fishing methods are being eliminated and longlining method is being introduced as longlining will increase the price of fish many times. 

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said rehabilitation of Korangi Fish Harbor and new facilities have begun. 

Revenue from export fee reforms reached Rs250 million, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry disclosed.

He said reforms are expected to significantly increase tuna exports and foreign exchange.

Pakistan will play a leading role in global tuna governance as Pakistan expects $200 million in revenue from tuna industry, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said.

He said Pakistan achieved historic success in tuna quota allotment. 

Pakistan allotted 25,000 metric tons of tuna fishing quota, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry added.

He said demand for Pakistani tuna is increasing in the global market.
