Proclaimed offender killed in alleged police encounter in Jhelum
Amir alias Meero gunned down after opening fire on CCD team
A wanted proclaimed offender, identified as Amir alias Meero, was killed in an alleged police encounter near Dina Saturday, according to a spokesperson for the law enforcement authorities.
The Counter Crime Department (CCD) team was reportedly conducting an operation to apprehend the suspect when he opened fire on the officers, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire. In the retaliatory firing, Amir was fatally shot.
The slain suspect had escaped from CCD Rawalpindi's custody just a day earlier, prompting a widespread search operation.
According to the spokesperson, Amir was a dangerous offender from Taxila and had been wanted in several serious criminal cases.
His body has been shifted to a hospital for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway.
Authorities have not yet disclosed details about the charges Amir faced or how he managed to escape from custody, but sources suggest additional security lapses are being examined.
