President Arif Alvi has ordered the Banking Ombudsman to redress a citizen’s complaint about the illegal transfer of funds from her bank account in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The Banking Ombudsman earlier had decided to dispose of the complaint “without listening to the complainant or conducting an inquiry”.
The Lahore resident claimed that an amount of Rs140,000 was transferred from her bank account at its Ichhra branch without her permission and after filing the complaint, the Banking Ombudsman closed the case without proper investigation and without hearing her.
The complainant then appealed to the President against the decision of the Banking Ombudsman and now it has been directed that the Ombudsman should give full opportunity to the complainant.
President Alvi said that failure to meet the demands of justice spreads frustration and despair in the society as the provisions relating to the inquiry into the Banking Companies Ordinance were ignored.
“Banking ombudsman should meet the requirements and should take appropriate action,” the President said.
