PPP demands Captain Safdar apologise to Sindh over GB election remarks

Sukkur Mayor and Sindh Government Spokesperson Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh has demanded that PML-N leader Captain Safdar apologise to the people of Sindh for inappropriate remarks made during election campaigning in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Friday, Shaikh said that certain comments made by Captain Safdar during his election speeches contained unethical language and had offended the sentiments of Sindh’s people.

He claimed that Captain Safdar’s remarks regarding the people of Sindh and references made while discussing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif amounted to an attack on Sindhi culture.

Arsalan Shaikh said that Captain Safdar should apologise to the people of Sindh, adding that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had earned public trust and formed its government in the province through popular support.

The PPP leader urged Captain Safdar to be an obedient husband and avoid statements that could create divisions and resentment among people.

The Sindh government spokesperson also advised Captain Safdar to visit Sindh and witness local conditions firsthand. He said that several areas had been facing shortages of gas and electricity for days.

Giving a warning that criticism would receive a response, Arsalan Shaikh said the Sindh government did not spend public funds on publicity campaigns and TikTok promotion. He contrasted Sindh’s approach with the priorities of other provincial administrations.

Highlighting the Sindh government's achievements, he said that 31 percent of patients receiving treatment in Sindh’s hospitals came from Punjab. He also criticised the condition of the National Highway and pointed to the lack of progress on the motorway project linking Karachi and Sukkur.

Arsalan Shaikh further stated that Sindh was undertaking the world's largest housing initiative, under which 2.1 million people would receive free homes.

He said major improvements had also been made in the irrigation sector and that thousands of skilled women were now running their own businesses across the province.

Calling on the federal government to protect Sindh’s financial rights, he demanded that the province receive its full share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award and urged authorities not to reduce Sindh’s allocation.

The PPP leader also praised party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, saying that during his tenure as foreign minister he enhanced Pakistan’s standing on the international stage. He concluded by paying tribute to Field Marshal General Asim Munir for his services to the country.
