Three labourers killed in firing during illegal gold mining in Kohat’s Shakardara

Three labourers were killed when unknown armed men opened fire at a site of illegal gold mining in the Shakardara area of Kohat, sources told 24NewsHD TV on Thursday.

According to local sources, the incident occurred when the labourers were busy extracting gold from a mining site in Shakardara. Armed assailants suddenly opened fire, leaving three workers dead on the spot.

Their bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities. Police and security officials reached the scene after the incident and launched an investigation to trace the attackers.

Sources said that illegal gold mining activities have been continuing in the area despite a government ban. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest incident.

The tragic killing has raised fresh concerns about law and order and the unchecked continuation of banned mining operations in the region.
