20 suspects in May 9 case handed prisons terms, fines in Rawalpindi

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Monday sentenced 20 suspects in a May 9 case to six months rigorous imprisonment besides slapping Rs50,000 in fine on each of them, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.  

The court pronounced the verdict after the suspects confessed to their crime. 

The court ordered the SHO Railway Police Station, Rawalpindi to take the convicts into custody and shift them to the Adiala Jail.

Earlier, in his arguments, the prosecutor said that the suspects had attacked the railway station at Tarnol according to a well-thought-out strategy to vent their anger at the arrest of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan. “They set fire to the railway station’s building and also the computers and the record kept inside it,” he said, adding, “They also resorted to vandalism.”

The convicts had been on bail for the last two years.

In their confessional statements, the convicts said that attacked the railway station at the instigation of the PTI leadership and that they would not commit such crimes in the future. 

They said they were poor people, therefore, they requested the court to be lenient towards them.
