KP Assembly forms parliamentary committee to pursue constitutional, financial rights

The Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has constituted a parliamentary committee to pursue the province’s constitutional and financial rights with the federation, bringing together members from both the treasury and opposition benches.

According to an official notification, the committee will be headed by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and will focus on addressing key issues related to provincial rights and resource allocation.

The committee includes senior government members such as Meena Khan Afridi, Aftab Alam and Muzammil Aslam, along with opposition representatives led by Opposition Leader Dr. Ibadullah Khan and Akbar Ayub Khan.

Other members of the committee include Nazir Ahmed Abbasi, Abdul Karim Khan, Asif Khan, Ahmed Kundi, Maulana Lutfur Rehman, Arbab Muhammad Usman Khan and Arbab Muhammad Wasim Khan.

The notification stated that the committee would draft its terms of reference in its first sitting and may co-opt additional members or consult experts as required for effective functioning.

The formation of the committee comes as part of broader efforts by the provincial leadership to strengthen its case on constitutional entitlements and financial share, amid ongoing concerns regarding resource distribution and federal-provincial relations.
