One paisa relief: Nepra announces cut in power tariff

In a move being seen as marginal relief for consumers, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Tuesday decreased electricity prices by one paisa per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism.

According to a notification issued by the regulator, the reduction pertains to the March 2026 adjustment and will be reflected in electricity bills for May. The decision applies across the country in line with government policy guidelines.

Interestingly, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had initially sought an increase of 27 paisa per unit for the same period. However, Nepra instead approved a nominal reduction.

The slight decrease has drawn mixed reactions, with some observers terming it symbolic rather than substantial, offering limited financial relief to consumers already burdened by rising energy costs.
