Summary moved for Orange Line train fares hike from Rs20 to Rs70

After the government's has increased prices of petrol, Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) sent a summary to the Punjab Chief Minister for approval of new and revised fares of Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT), reported 24NewsHD TV on Friday.
The Transport department has once again recommended, making affordable public transport more expensive for Lahorites.
According to the official documents, the Punjab Transport Department has recommended to fix the fare of Orange train up to 5 km at Rs20, for 10 km journey at Rs30, for 15 km fare at Rs40.
Similarly, it has been recommended to increase the fare for 15 to 20 kms by Rs 50, for 20 to 25 kms by Rs 60 and for more than 25 kms by Rs 70.
The Transport Department had earlier recommended to the Standing Committee of Finance of provincial cabinet to fix the fares of Orange train from station to station, however, the decision to increase ticket price was made subject to the approval of the Punjab Cabinet.
According to Transport Department officials, the Orange Train station fare will not increase the burden on the public.
According to sources, new and revised Orange Line fares agenda has been included in the upcoming Punjab cabinet meeting’s item list.
