A thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds and lightning struck Lahore late at night, turning the weather pleasantly cool 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the gusty winds brought a noticeable drop in temperature, but also led to power outages in several parts of the city.

Heavy rain was reported in multiple areas, including Kamalia, Toba Tek Singh, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, and Kasur, as widespread showers lashed many cities across Punjab.

The channel reported that the storm also caused trees to fall in various neighbourhoods of Lahore, further disrupting electricity supply in some areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall is expected today in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan, with the possibility of hailstorms in several locations.

The night-long rain and thunderstorm brought both relief from the lingering heat and challenges in the form of fallen trees and power cuts.

Residents in Lahore and other parts of Punjab woke up to cooler, breezier weather following the intense downpour.

A spokesman of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab said that Noorpur Thal received 47 millimetres of rain, Faisalabad 42, Okara 35, Toba Tek Singh 34, Sargodha 23, Lahore 38, Jhang 17, and Mianwali 10.

Shortkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Kasur, and Sahiwal also received rain.

The spokesman further said that more rain is expected in different districts of the Punjab during the next twenty-four hours.

Rawalpindi, Murree, Gilyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, and Sialkot are likely to receive rain.
