Asad Umar sees signs of coronavirus third wave slowing

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar disclosed on Tuesday that there were initial signs that the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic is slowing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a couple of tweets, Asad Umar also disclosed that the number of people who have so far got coronavirus vaccine shots has crossed one million.

In a couple of tweets, the federal minister said more than 76,000 vaccinations were carried out in a single day on Monday.

He further said that so far over two million people have got registered themselves for the vaccinations, of which 600,000 are health workers and 1.4 million others.

In another tweet, Asad Umar said there were initial signs of coronavirus positivity ratio slowing as the increased restrictions, broader lockdowns and strong enforcement of SOPs have started showing their impact.

The minister, however, said due to the momentum of the last two weeks patients on critical care and mortality will stay at high levels for some time.

According to the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Tuesday morning, another 103 people have lost their lives to the Covid-19 infection whereas 3,953 fresh cases were reported during the last 24 hours (Monday).

As per the NCOC statistics, after adding 103 fatalities, the death toll has now surged to 14,924 whereas the number of total confirmed cases stood at 696,184, after adding 3,953 new ones.
