Over 34,000 Afghans deported from Punjab; Balochistan criticises Taliban regime

The deportation of illegally residing foreign nationals, including Afghan citizens, continues across the province, with more than 34,000 people expelled so far, including from Lahore, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Police, the deported individuals include over 13,000 men, around 7,000 women, and more than 14,000 children. He said the operation is being carried out across the province under heightened security arrangements.

The spokesperson added that security remains on high alert in relation to Afghan nationals, while 201 individuals are currently present at holding points awaiting deportation. 

Among those deported, 10,665 had proof of residence, 11,114 possessed Afghan Citizen Cards, and 12,206 were categorised as illegal foreign residents.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Punjab Police (IG Punjab) Abdul Karim has directed officials to ensure the complete evacuation of all illegally residing individuals, emphasising that the process is being conducted in accordance with international laws.

On the other hand, citizens in Balochistan have voiced strong concerns over the situation, expressing resentment regarding hostility despite Pakistan’s long-standing support for Afghan refugees. 

Balochistan citizens said Pakistan has provided shelter, education and employment to Afghan refugees for years, but the country still faces security challenges.

Some residents alleged that instead of promoting peace, elements linked to the Afghan Taliban regime have contributed to instability, leading to growing frustration among the public. 

Observers note that increasing criticism from Balochistan reflects rising concerns over law and order and cross-border security issues.
