Chinese ambassador warns of global economic impact of Middle East war
Says five-point initiative reflects joint stance of China and Pakistan on regional conflict: Emphasis on ceasefire, diplomacy, and protection of key infrastructure
China has expressed concern over escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, warning that the conflict is putting pressure on regional stability and the global economy, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
According to the TV channel, in a statement, the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, highlighted that growing tensions in the Gulf region are a matter of serious concern and reiterated the importance of diplomatic efforts to restore peace.
The Chinese ambassador said the conflict is putting pressure on regional stability and the global economy.
He noted that on March 31, China and Pakistan held a meeting in Beijing and jointly issued a five-point initiative aimed at promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
The envoy said the initiative reflects a unified stance of both countries and aligns with the aspirations of the international community.
He added that foreign ministers of Pakistan and China have been in close contact, holding two telephonic conversations and a meeting in Beijing to coordinate efforts for regional peace.
The Chinese ambassador said the joint efforts by Beijing and Islamabad have emerged as a strong voice for peace, stability, and justice in the region, urging all stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue to avoid further escalation.
The five-point initiative calls for an immediate ceasefire, prevention of further escalation, and ensuring humanitarian assistance to affected areas.
It also stresses respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence of regional states, particularly Iran and Gulf countries.
Both sides emphasised that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable solutions to conflicts, urging all parties to refrain from targeting civilians and critical infrastructure, including energy and nuclear facilities.
The initiative also calls for safeguarding maritime security, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, to ensure safe passage of commercial shipping.
