PTI nominates Irfan Saleem for Senate seat

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has finalised Irfan Saleem as its candidate for the upcoming Senate by-election from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following a meeting of its Parliamentary Board, according to an official notification.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Khan Afridi on the directives of PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar Khan, reviewed candidates for the vacant Senate seat.

The board unanimously selected Irfan Saleem after what it described as “detailed and thoughtful deliberations,” acknowledging the contributions and sacrifices of multiple applicants.

The notification further stated that Sajjad Mohmand has been nominated as the covering candidate, while Ghulam Badshah Bhittani and Sardar Khan were also listed among potential covering nominees.

The party leadership emphasized loyalty and commitment to the vision of Imran Khan as key considerations in the selection process.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the schedule for the by-election on the vacant general Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The seat fell vacant following the disqualification of former federal minister and PTI leader Murad Saeed.

According to the ECP, polling will take place on April 23 in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. Candidates can submit their nomination papers on April 6 and 7, while scrutiny will be completed by April 10.
