Rupee gets a hit against Euro, pound; dollar loses 20paisas
Although the dollar shed some of its value on Thursday, the euro reached another milestone against the rupee by reaching the Rs200 mark in open market with a gain of Rs1.50, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Similarly, the pound sterling was available for Rs222 after gaining Rs2, thus setting a new record against the local currency.
However, the dollar was down by 20 paisas after having a bad day in world markets and traded at Rs168.60.
A similar trend was witnessed in inter-bank exchange rate with the euro ending the day at Rs199.35 after gaining 70 paisas.
In case of the pound, the increase was even bigger as it closed the session at Rs221.54. Hence, it made a gain of Rs1.69 during the day.
Both euro and pound are having a great run against the rupee in recent weeks and their gains have been even greater than that of the dollar.
The latest gains came after the euro went up by Rs1.46 and was available for Rs198.65 while the pound ended the session at Rs219.85 with a gain of 42 paisas on Wednesday in inter-bank exchange rate.
On the other, both euro and pound gained Rs1 each against the local currency and closed the session at Rs198.50 and Rs220 respectively.
However, the dollar on Wednesday had climbed back to its historically high exchange rate in open market while its value also increased in inter-bank trading.
In inter-bank trading, the dollar closed the session at Rs168.22 after gaining 76 paisas against the rupee, which was just eight paisas shy of the all-time record.
On the other hand, the open market saw the dollar exchange rate reaching the current record value of Rs168.80 again after it was up by 60 paisas.
