The government has decided to fill the post of National Bank of Pakistan President which is lying vacant for the last three months, reported 24 News HD TV Channel on Saturday.

Ironically, the country is facing a severe financial crisis and key financial institutions like the State Bank of Pakistan and the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) are without their permanent heads.

Now, sensing the bad financial situation, the government has decided to fill the posts on a war footing.

The selection committee headed by the Finance Minister Miftah Ismail will conduct interviews on August 13 for the post of NBP presidency. The committee will recommend three names for taking the final approval of the Prime Minister.

According to sources, Tahir Hasan Qureshi, Javed Qureshi, Hasan Raza, Khurshid Zafar, Tahir Yaqub Bhatti, and Farrukh Iqbal Khan are believed to be the main contestant for the lucrative post.

The 3-year term of Arif Usmani, former president of |NBP expired on February 12, 2022, however, he was granted a three-month extension by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

On completion of the three-month extended period of NBP President Arif Usmani, the government has assigned the look after charge of the post to Senior Executive Vice President Rehmat Ali Hasni.
