Pakistan's trade deficit up 16pc on a monthly, 44pc on annual basis

Pakistan's trade gap in July stood at nearly $2.75billion compared to the previous months. According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan's trade deficit increased by 16 per cent on a monthly basis and 44 per cent on an annual basis, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel. 

In July 2025, exports rose, but imports grew at a faster rate. Pakistan has exported goods worth $2.7 billion, while imports reached $5.45 billion during the same period. 

The trade gap in July stood at nearly $2.75 billion, to mark a significant widening compared to previous months. Economists warned that sustained high import levels could exert further pressure on the rupee. 

They also cautioned that the current account, which was recently in surplus, may return to negative territory if the trend continues. According to the statistics, in the month of July, the trade deficit on an annual basis has increased by 44.16 percent. In comparison, the past month trade deficit increased by 16.2 percent monthly. The trade deficit is 2 billion 752 million dollars recorded in the month of July. There was a 16.91 percent increase in exports on an annual basis, whereas monthly, there was an 8.88 percent increase. In July 2025, the exports were 2 billion 697 million dollars. The past month, the imports increased by 29.25 percent on an annual basis, whereas monthly, there was a 12.37 percent increase. In July 2025, the volume of imports was 5 billion 449 million dollars.
