Sindh declares August 9 public holiday for Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Urs

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on August 9 (Friday) across the province to mark the annual Urs of the revered Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. A formal notification has been issued by the provincial authorities.

According to Secretary Culture Sindh, Muhammad Khan Kallor, the 282nd three-day Bhittai Urs celebrations will begin on Saturday in Bhit Shah, Matiari district. Speaking to 24 News, Kallor said that preparations are in full swing and “adequate arrangements have been completed” to ensure a smooth and spiritual celebration.

“All relevant departments are on high alert,” he added, noting that traditional activities, literary gatherings, and devotional music will form part of the festivities.

The provincial Minister for Culture has officially invited Governor Sindh to inaugurate the Urs celebrations, signalling the importance of the event in Sindh’s cultural and spiritual calendar.

In a move to maintain law and order, the Hyderabad Commissioner has banned the display of weapons during the three-day event.

The Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai draws devotees and cultural enthusiasts from across the country every year, offering a blend of Sufi spirituality, poetry, music, and Sindhi heritage.
