Water enters homes as heavy rain pounds Rawalpindi, Islamabad

Low-lying areas were inundated while water levels in streams and nullahs rose significantly after heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

So heavy was the rainfall that the water even entered people’s homes in Chak Shahzad, Bhara Kahu, New Chatha Bakhtawar and PHA Society.

People rescued in Chatha Bakhtawar

Acting at a lightning speed, the Rescue 1122 team rushed to Chatha Bakhtawar society and rescued 40 to 45 people, who had been left stranded in rainwater near a mosque in street number 5. 

The rescuers reached the spot within 12 minutes after receiving the call. 

Parts of Khyber receive rain

On the other hand, different parts of Khyber district also received heavy rain, bringing an end to a long period of drought and bringing smiles to the people’s faces, who were ecstatic that the hot and extremely humid weather was finally over. 

The rain also flooded low-lying areas besides leading to tripping of several feeders. 

Met Office predicts rains 

Meanwhile, the weather department forecast rains for different parts of upper Punjab, KP and Kashmir during the next 24 hours that could lead to landslides in mountainous areas. 

It said that it could rain cats and dogs at a few places in north-east Punjab, Kashmir and upper KP during the aforementioned period. 

Similarly, it also predicted rainfall for Zhob, Barkhan, Khuzdar, and Musakhel in Balochistan, while predicting dry and extremely humid weather for Sindh. 

However, it said that there could be drizzle in the coastal areas of the province.
