Honoring the Legacy of Lata Mangeshkar at her third death anniversary
Today is the 6th of February, the death anniversary of melody queen Lata Mangeshkar. It’s been three years to her demise, but her magical vocals continue to echo in millions of hearts across generations and time.
Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away at the age of 92, has started her career with Marathi cinema. Before becoming the OG voice of Bollywood, she sang for Marathi films, and her first break came with the song "Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari" in the Marathi film 'Kiti Hasaal (1942)' when she was just 13 years old.

She had a career that spanned seven decades, and her discography is a treasure trove of remarkable music. She recorded over 30,000 songs in almost 36 languages.
Her contribution to the Indian music industry gained her titles such as the "Queen of Melody", "Voice of the Millennium" and "Nightingale of India".
Beyond the glitz of Bollywood, Lata Mangeshkar also sang for regional and non-Bollywood films. One of her most beloved non-Bollywood works is in the Bengali movie 'Kath'i (1963), where her haunting melody "Aaj Phoolon Ki", with music composed by Hemant Kumar, stands out. Similarly, her work in some South Indian cinema, especially in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, was also highly appreciated.

Her first Hindi song was "Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu" for the Marathi film Gajaabhaau (1943). The Bollywood industry was yet to find its feet, so Mangeshkar had to first concentrate on acting, which she did not like, as the lights and people ordering her around made her feel uncomfortable.

She sang unforgettable songs, including “Lag Jaa Gale”, “Mohe Panghat Pe”, “Chalte Chalte”, “Satyam Shivam Sundaram”, “Ajeeb Daastaan Hai”, “Hothon mein aisi baat”, “Pyar kiya to darna kya”, “Neela aasman so gaya”, and “Pani Pani Re”.
In 2012, Lata Mangeshkar launched her own label — LM Music. Her last known song was a Marathi number that she sang in 2019.

Awards:
She received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2001.
France too bestowed her with its highest civilian award, the Officer of the Legion of Honour, in 2007.
Mangeshkar has three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, two Filmfare Special Awards, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, and many more.
