Dr Niaz Ahmed Akhtar takes over as HEC chairman

Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Akhtar has assumed charge as the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for a period of two years.

According to a notification issued by HEC Islamabad, the appointment has come into effect from February 6, 2026.

The notification said Dr Akhtar’s appointment has been made under the Higher Education Commission Ordinance 2002 and the HEC Amendment Act 2021.

Dr Niaz Ahmed Akhtar has formally taken over his responsibilities as the head of the commission following the issuance of the appointment order.
