Suicide bomber in Tarlai mosque attack identified, trained in Afghanistan: govt sources
The suicide bomber involved in the attack at a mosque in Islamabad’s Tarlai area has been identified, and investigations have revealed that he received training in terrorist activities in Afghanistan, government sources said.
According to the sources, the bomber had travelled to Afghanistan multiple times and had returned to Pakistan some time ago. They said the identification of the attacker marked a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
Government sources said that various terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan under the patronage of the Taliban regime continued to pose a serious threat to the security of Pakistan and the wider region.
The sources further claimed that a nexus between Afghanistan and India was behind terrorist activities carried out in Pakistan.
Earlier, at least 31 worshippers were martyred and several others injured in the suicide attack at the mosque.
Condemning the incident, government sources said such cowardly attacks on mosques and innocent citizens could not shake the resolve of the Pakistani nation.
They said the entire nation stood united against terrorism and remained determined to confront and defeat extremist violence in all its forms.
