Heavy rain pounds Lahore, Rawalpindi, other Punjab cities

Heavy monsoon rain lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and other parts of upper Punjab on Sunday, inundating low-lying areas and at the same time ridding the people of hot and muggy weather, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Rain in and around the twin cities inundated low-lying areas and resulted in a considerable rise in the water level in Nullah Lai.

The water level in the nullah at Katarian rose to 13.5 feet while at Gawalmandi it was recorded at 8.5 feet. 

Thundershowers reported from Punjab cities

Similarly, it rained cats and dogs in several Punjab cities, including Lahore, which disrupted routine life.

At the same time, however, it turned the weather pleasant and offered people a respite from scorching heat and humidity.

In Lahore, Lakshmi Chowk received the highest amount of rainfall, totaling 62 millimeters, followed by Pani Wala Talab 60 millimeters.

PDMA issues rain alert for Balochistan

On the other hand, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Sunday issued an alert for rains in different parts of Balochistan from July 5 to July 9.  

In its alert, the PDMA said that rains could affect large swathes of the province.

Giving details, it said that the districts, which could be affected by the rains, were Sibbi, Ziarat, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Musakhel, Dukki, Loralai, Barkhan, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Sheerani, Harnai, Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Sorab, Awaran, Washik and Lasbela and their surrounding areas. 

It urged the district administrations to remain on high alert in order to prevent any untoward incident. 

The Authority also urged people to seek updates on the weather from reliable sources and also avoid travelling to low-lying and areas, which were more prone to disasters.   

3 die in rain-related incidents

Two brothers and a child died in two rain-related incidents in Musa Khel and Rawalpindi on Sunday

The first incident took place in Musa Khel, where two brothers died due to lightning during the heavy rain. 

In the second incident in Rawalpindi, a child was killed after the roof of a house collapsed amid heavy downpour in Rawalpindi district.

The incident took place in the Kahuta tehsil of the district of Rawalpindi.

A swift response from the Rescue 1122 team saved the lives of four people who were trapped underneath the debris of the house.
