Honorary Attock deputy commissioner Muneeba Maqsood passes away

Muneeba Maqsood, a young thalassaemia patient who was appointed as Attock's honorary deputy commissioner for one day to fulfil her lifelong wish, has passed away, 24NewsHD TV reported. 

Muneeba had been battling thalassaemia for nearly 20 years.

On June 22, 2026, Attock Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza honoured her wish by appointing her as the district's honorary deputy commissioner for a day.

During her symbolic tenure, Muneeba issued directives to improve the welfare of children with special needs.

She was also accorded full official protocol upon her arrival at the Deputy Commissioner's Office.

According to a statement earlier shared on the Deputy Commissioner Attock's official Facebook page, it was the first time in the district's 122-year history that a deputy commissioner had appointed a citizen as honorary DC to fulfil a personal wish.

Muneeba's appointment was widely appreciated on social media as a compassionate gesture, inspiring many with her courage and determination despite her prolonged battle with the life-threatening blood disorder.

Her passing has saddened people across the district, with many paying tribute to her resilience and the positive message she left behind.
